Let’s ‘open the box’ on SLK 136, the 1966 Italian GP winning 312 F1
The kit follows our typical approach, with a combination of cast metal parts, photo etch, rubber tyres, waterslide decals, a selection of wires and other metal parts and of course detailed instructions
312 ’66 features elegant, clean lines. A classic monoposto from a wonderful era of motorsport
While this is an elegant racing car, a spread of the cast metal parts illustrates that no compromises have been taken in terms of design and detail. We will explore a few of these parts more closely
A close up of some of the smaller parts highlights the excellent levels of detail. Almost too fine to effectively photograph…
Fine bolt head detail is evident on the engine cam covers
The rear engine cover represents the specific cooling solutions for this event
Likewise at the nose of the car, the distinctive vents in the top of the 312 ’66 body are faithfully represented
Crisp cast detail on the transmission
The main body casting with the seat and engine block test fitted
Remarkable cast detail on the engine parts. Again, a real test for the camera!
A selection of photo etch parts are incorporated into the design which this provide a superior solution to cast metal
Under magnification, the perfectly formed details are evident
Pre=formed wire mesh covers are included for the engine trumpets. The surplus mesh can be trimmed with scissors or wire snips
Rubber tyres are included with the characteristic tread pattern
A comprehensive decal is also included, with a surprisingly large number of markings given the complete lack of sponsor markings on this car
Instructions provide a clear and detailed build sequence with colour references for all parts
…and the beautiful model which will emerge after 24 steps of construction. Enjoy!
