SilverLine Kit SLK134 is now available, and here we open the box.
This is a deeply emotional subject for many collectors and fans of Formula 1. A beautiful car with a tragic story. While the FW16 has long been available in the Tameo Kits range, we have decided to refresh this subject, with the specific details of the 1994 San Marino GP. Hopefully the care and attention to detail for this subject is evident as we step through the parts.
The instruction manual is full colour, providing details of the painting and assembly sequence. The manual is also nicely illustrated with many archive photos from the Imola weekend.
The spread of parts highlights a mix of cast metal, photo etch, rubber tyres, decals and detail parts. The kit is a completely new design and tooling, with no parts carried over from the earlier releases.
On the photo etch frames, we find a name plate, rear wing end plates and support structure, harness and suspension components.
The main body casting perfectly captures the unique design features of the Fw16. Cast into the surface of the model are very fine masking guidelines for the exact location of the white / blue separation. These can be used to guide masking, or used to pre-cut masks, then filled for painting.
The transmission and rear upper suspension are cast as a single part and fit perfectly between the body and floor.
Detail parts like the fuel filler have been redesigned to maximise the detail and fidelity.
Even the tiny steering wheel features wonderful cast metal details. This will look excellent once painted and provide additional interest inside the cockpit.
Chromed 3D decals are provided for the fasteners on top of the wing mirrors.
Decals are printed in excellent register and with vibrant colours. The gold sections featuring an accurate metallic pigment.
Hopefully these images provide a good overview of this new kit. We trust modelers will appreciate the effort and care we have put into its design and production. We very much look forward to seeing your builds of SLK 134.
